How much does Sumo Logic cost in 2026?
Sumo Logic publishes credit prices and credit burn rates rather than a per-GB-per-day price. On Enterprise Suite Flex a credit has an MSRP of $1.50 (US, annual terms) and ingesting and indexing logs is free; credits are burned by storage (0.05 credits per GB stored per day), search (10 credits per GB scanned upfront, 20 once upfront capacity is used) and Cloud SIEM ingest at 40 credits per GB, which is about $60 per GB: 5 GB/day of Cloud SIEM ingest alone is about $110K a year at MSRP. Sumo also sells Cloud Flex Credit plans at $0.15 to $0.25 per credit, where ingest does burn credits (25 per GB Continuous, 12 Frequent, 5 Infrequent). On our stated assumptions, a 50 GB/day deployment with 5 GB/day through Cloud SIEM comes to about $128K a year on Enterprise Suite Cloud Flex Credits and $219K-$424K on Flex at MSRP, before discount. Search volume and retention, not ingest, decide where in that range a Flex customer lands.
How Sumo Logic pricing actually works
Sumo Logic's current go-forward pricing is the Flex model, and it inverts the usual SIEM economics. Ingesting and indexing log data is free. You do not pay a per-GB ingest charge, and you do not manage or rehydrate storage yourself. Instead, credits are consumed by two things: the volume of data you search (scan) and the volume you store. Sumo describes this as paying for analytics and insights, not data management.
A credit is the unit of consumption, with an MSRP of $1.50 for Enterprise Suite Flex on US annual terms, plus published uplifts of 10 to 40 percent by deployment region and up to 30 percent by payment terms, and a default 10 percent increase in net annual fees at renewal unless agreed otherwise in writing. Because ingest is free under Flex, the cost lever moves from how much data you collect to how much of it you actually query and how long you retain it. This is a genuine structural difference from ingest-metered vendors, and it is why a Sumo Flex bill cannot be reconstructed from a GB-per-day figure alone.
The one important exception to free ingest is Cloud SIEM. The CSE GB Ingest variable burns 40 credits per GB, which at the $1.50 Flex MSRP is about $60 per GB: 5 GB per day of Cloud SIEM ingest is 73,000 credits, or about $109,500 a year, before discount. Cloud SIEM Enterprise is an additional purchase on top of the base plan. So a security deployment has two cost drivers that a pure observability deployment does not: the Cloud SIEM ingest stream, and the search volume that detections and investigations generate.
Search cost under Flex is set by two published burn rates, not by data tier. Flex Log Upfront Search burns 10 credits per GB scanned (about $15 at MSRP) against the search capacity you buy upfront; once that is used, Flex Log Metered Search burns 20 credits per GB scanned (about $30) until you add more upfront capacity. The Continuous, Frequent and Infrequent tiers belong to the Cloud Flex Credit plans, where ingest is what burns credits (25, 12 and 5 credits per GB) and Infrequent data adds a 2-credit charge per GB scanned. That makes Infrequent on a Cloud Flex Credit plan the cheap home for compliance logs and other keep-but-rarely-read data.
Storage also consumes credits, at 0.05 credits per GB stored per day on both schemes, so retention is a real cost dimension even though Flex ingest is free: at the Flex MSRP that is about $2.28 per GB-month. The practical discipline under Flex is to watch scan behaviour and retention rather than ingest. Sumo's Account Overview page reports credit consumption for Flex data searches, which is the metric to monitor day one, since broad wildcard scans across large volumes are the fastest way to burn credits.

Our arithmetic over Sumo's published burn rates, US annual terms, before uplifts or discount. Flex column: storage at 0.05 credits per GB per day for the retention shown, Upfront Search at 10 credits per GB scanned with a daily scan volume of 0.25x to 1x of daily ingest (0.1x to 0.25x for the retention-heavy profile), and Cloud SIEM ingest at 40 credits per GB, all at $1.50 per credit. Cloud Flex Credits column: Enterprise Suite at $0.25 per credit, Continuous ingest at 25 credits per GB (Cloud SIEM share at 40 instead), storage at 0.05 credits per GB per day, and for the retention-heavy profile Infrequent ingest at 5 credits plus Infrequent Search at 2 credits per GB scanned. Sumo states its burn rates are examples and the order form governs, so treat these as list-price benchmarks, not quotes.
Five Sumo Logic cost optimisations that genuinely work
Cut scan volume, not ingest
Biggest leverUnder Flex you pay for what you search, not what you ingest. Narrow time ranges, target specific partitions, and avoid broad wildcard scans across raw data. Because ingest and indexing are free, disciplined search behaviour is the single largest cost lever in the platform.
Route rarely-searched data to Infrequent
On retentionOn Cloud Flex Credit plans the Infrequent tier burns 5 credits per GB ingested and 2 credits per GB scanned, against 25 credits per GB for Continuous ingest. Route compliance logs and other keep-but-rarely-read sources there so most of the cost is the low ingest rate plus a scan charge only on the occasions you search. Under Flex, storage is charged per GB per day (0.05 credits), so long retention is the line to watch.
Use scheduled views and aggregation
On repeat searchDashboards and recurring correlations that re-scan the same raw data every shift are pure repeated scan cost. Scheduled views materialise common queries on a cadence so downstream reads hit the pre-aggregated result rather than rescanning source volume.
Right-size retention and storage
On storageStorage consumes 0.05 credits per GB stored per day on both credit schemes, so 365-day retention costs about twelve times 30-day retention. Trim retention on high-volume, low-value sources rather than keeping everything at maximum retention by default. Retention is configurable per partition, so match it to the real investigation window for each source.
Negotiate the credit rate and commit
On rateThe $1.50 per credit figure is Enterprise Suite Flex MSRP for US annual terms. Sumo publishes the upward adjustments: deployment-region uplifts of 10 to 40 percent, payment-term uplifts of up to 30 percent, and a default 10 percent increase in net annual fees at renewal unless otherwise agreed in writing. Negotiate the renewal cap into the first contract, and model expected annual scan and storage credits before committing to a bucket size.
When Sumo Logic is the right SIEM
Sumo Logic earns its place in three buyer profiles. First, organisations that ingest a lot but search selectively and keep short retention, where the free-ingest Flex model directly rewards the way they actually work. Second, teams with high-volume compliance retention on a Cloud Flex Credit plan, where routing rarely-read logs to the Infrequent tier costs 5 credits per GB ingested plus 2 credits per GB scanned, rather than 25 credits per GB for Continuous. Third, teams leaving an ingest-metered vendor because collection volume, not query volume, was driving the bill; moving the cost basis to scan and storage can materially lower total spend for that profile.
Sumo is the weaker pick for two profiles. First, teams that run broad, constant scans across all of their data, or keep long retention on Flex, where the free-ingest advantage erodes because Flex search (10 to 20 credits per GB scanned) and storage (0.05 credits per GB per day) are what you pay for. Second, Microsoft-heavy shops whose log mix is dominated by Microsoft 365 and Azure sources, where Sentinel's free Microsoft 365 ingest and native Entra ID integration can make Sentinel structurally cheaper for that data. Sumo competes with Sentinel on non-Microsoft sources but cannot match the bundled-Microsoft economics.
Against Splunk specifically, the comparison turns on metering rather than a headline discount. A Splunk Cloud deployment at 50 GB/day lists at about $63K base and about $124K with Enterprise Security. At Sumo's published list rates, 50 GB/day with 30-day retention and 5 GB/day through Cloud SIEM comes to about $128K on Enterprise Suite Cloud Flex Credits and $219K to $424K on Flex at MSRP, so Sumo does not undercut Splunk at list on these assumptions. Negotiated Sumo terms and your real scan volume can move that a long way, so model your real query patterns before assuming a saving in either direction.
